Schools and school boards work with parents as partners in children’s learning.
Backyard gardens were introduded in 2006 in Wabowden's Mel Johnson School, where a teacher's desire to see kids in the northern Manitoba town learn more where their food comes from translated into a garden project involving students in grades 3 and 4. "...And This is My Garden" has caught the attention of the David Duzuki Foundation, and was highlighted at a European Economic and Social Council sustainable development conference last year. More recently, the project was featured in a new film by Winnipeg filmmaker Katharina Stieffenhofer.
