Schools and school boards work with parents as partners in children’s learning.
Educational assistants, working in collaboration with teachers, play a vital role in the delivery of support services to students. Their numbers are increasing, as is the complexity of the job. In 2005, The Seine River School Division acted to support the individuals fulfilling this expanding and evolving role by establishing the Educational Assistant Development Program.
The Educational Assistant Development Program is a comprehensive training program that is provided at no cost to participants. The division covers the cost of instructors, materials, instructional space and all other related costs. The certificate program consists of 180 hours of theory and practical skill development, and 120 hours of supervised employment in the division. As a result of this training, educational assistants are developing expanded skills and acquiring new knowledge to better serve students. The first class of 35 educational assistants graduated in June 2009.
