School boards help students prepare for the future by providing technical and vocational programming options.
What would happen if, even before their children were about to begin kindergarten, parents saw their local school as an open and welcoming place where they could meet other parents, learn positive parenting skills, and just enjoy some fun activities as a family? The Seven Oaks School Division asked that question eight years ago, and the result is a program that is now in place in all 14 of the division’s early years schools.
The program connects preschool parents and children to their neighbourhood elementary school. Each week, a thousand children, parents and caregivers participate in experiences like story time, art exploration, kid's yoga, gym time and interactive play groups. These and other activities promote positive language and literacy development, healthy parenting and relationships, and nutrition and fitness, while all the while building a stronger sense of community.
