Winnipeg School Launches own Alphabet Book: W is for Westgrove

This past November, Manitoba author Larry Verstraete visited Westgrove School as part of Canadian Children’s Book Week. After sharing his writing experience with his book, G is for Golden Boy, students and staff at the west Winnipeg School quickly began working on their very own alphabet book.

W is for Westgrove is a culmination of work provided by every student from kindergarten to grade six in the school. The poems and illustrations have been a whole-school effort. "Westgrove (School) students and staff have a new appreciation for the writing process and all the effort it takes to create a book," shares teacher-librarian/book project coordinator, Lisa Sykes.

As different as their subjects are, both books share common ground in their purpose. While G is for Golden Boy celebrates the uniqueness of Manitoba – its people, features, history and culture – W is for Westgrove celebrates the features that make Westgrove truly special - its programs, events, people and community.
